Car Club

Members of what is now the McCormick Car Club held their first meeting last November, and now are 40-plus members strong. The group owns an eclectic group of vehicles: hot rods, muscle cars, sports cars and more.

The club has a website, member directory, events calendar, logo and is in the process ordering club golf shirts and caps. Car shows, cruise-ins and more are on the schedule.

Hey, fellow Car Club members. I know the members are all out and about on Saturdays. And that’s as it should be!
However, one of the places fun to visit is John De La Howe Campus…and that’s where your Rotary friends are staging their Chili-Fest this Saturday. What better way to spend a COLD / COLD day before PRO-BOWL, than meet your friends-on-wheels, where the CHILI IS HOT , or not, your choice.
How many tickets does the club want, in whose name??? $7 advance, $8 at the door, 10 Chili varieties, all you can eat, or take-out, all the trimmings; with non-alcoholic beverages available. Let me know, and I’ll arrange your 11:00 to 2:00 P.M. lunch date for you.

    Gold Rush:

This coming Saturday is the Annual Gold Rush Festival and our club is sponsoring a car show as part of the festival. Historically MCC members Mike and Arita Morrett have been the driving force for the show

and through their efforts the car show has grown in participation from year to year. The proceeds from the car show are donated to Charity and the 2012 recipient will be the local McCormick Food Bank.

This year’s car show is expected to be the largest ever and as such we’ll need a host of volunteers to aide in its success. If you would like to participate as a volunteer, pls. contact me via email, we could use

your help. In addition, if you would like to bring that special car of yours up to the show for public display, even though you may not be interested in having it judged, pls. do so. If you would like to get your car

in the competition (judged) we would love to have you participate. The important thing for this activity is to HAVE FUN.

There will be a follow up email coming to you this Thursday as a reminder, as well as additional detail re. the event. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Picnic @ the Lovely’s:

We had over 20 members attend the picnic, with Pizza’s of different varieties along with salad and some tasty Brownies. I heard no one walked away hungry. I wanted to also extend a big Thank-You to the owner

(Tim) of Michelle’s Pizza for giving us a nice break on the cost of the Pizza’s. Michelle’s owners are tremendous supporters of the McCormick Community. I would encourage you to support their establishment.

Arita Morrett (car show organizer for the Gold Rush Festival) shared with us the organizational details of the show, the need for volunteers and the fact that while she and her husband Mike would normally

handle the shows operation, Mike is experiencing some health issues which may not allow him to participate, therefore volunteers are even more important. Volunteers will mostly be involved with passive

activities (nothing heavy/strenuous). Some members have already stepped forward to lend a hand, and we appreciate that very much.

I will be sending out reminders in the near future re. upcoming events that you may enjoy, so stay tuned.

That’s all for now…Mary and I look forward to seeing y’all at the Gold Rush.

    regards

    larry

Hello to all our McCormick Car Club Members

Hi folks, It’s been a long HOT summer and as such there has been limited activity for our club. However this month the temps have been more moderate, and starting in September we plan to be more active. I just checked our membership list and we’re still growing. Membership to date is “55” with inquiries coming in on a weekly basis. With that said let me outline a few of our upcoming events for your calendars.

    Events:

September 7th: Pizza Picnic and Club Meeting from 4:00pm to 8:00pm @ the Lovely’s Farm. Since we have to order the pizza’s, a RSVP will be needed no later than September 5th. In addition to Pizza, a salad with
various dressings along with a tasty desert will also be on the menu. You will need to bring your own beverages, although Coffee will be provided. Also bring your own chairs. This feast and meeting
will be held in the barn, so wear comfortable attire. There will be some extracurricular activities (Games) which I’ll share with you prior to the event. More on this as we get closer to the 7th.

September 15th: 35th Annual McCormick Gold Rush Festival & Car Show. Mike and Arita Morrett have been working very hard on organizing the car show for the Gold Rush festival as they have in years past.
Proceeds from the Car Show are donated to charity. Mike will talk about this event in more detail at our meeting on the 7th.

    Items of Interest:

Clothing order: I am gathering orders for Polo Shirts, T-Shirts and/or Ball caps. I need a minimum order of 12 items to submit to the vendor. We’re very close to the minimum order requirements now and with
just a few more I can place the order. Remember, the vendor requires payment up front before he will fill the order. Pricing…Polo’s are $18.00, T-Shirts – $9.00 and Hats are $9.50.

New Additions: Two of our members have recently purchased automobiles that have been completely restored and they are gorgeous; Bill & Diana Joslin (Avanti) and Mike & Arita Morrett (Corvair). With luck we’ll see
these beauties at one of our get togethers.

Closing: Mary and I are looking forward to getting our club members together and catch up on the summer highlights. It seems like forever since we were all together and I can’t wait
to see all those beautiful cars again. As always…I welcome questions or comments.

    Regards

    Larry

How many of you like The Beach Boys music? After 40 years the group is back together and just released their new album, “That’s why God made the radio” If you are a Beach Boy fan this is a must have. We bought the album at Wal-Mart.

Hope some of you can make this Saturday,

I wanted to make you aware that there will be other car clubs attending this event, so getting adequate parking and seats in the dinner will be more likely if we’re there a bit early. In addtion, Mike Morrett also shared with me that there is a flea market going on in the area close to the diner.

  15. Bob Bryan:

I love having a site like this where we can share our interest in cars. My name is Bob bryan and I was born with 30 weight motor oil in my veins. My grandfather was the Chevrolet dealer in Cushing Oklahoma, my grandmother, father and uncle owned the Oldsmobile Cadillac dealership in Stillwater Oklahoma. My first car at 14 was a 55 Chevy two-door hardtop with a 283 powerpack v8 which I promptly replaced with a Corvette 327. Next was a 1967 Z 28 Camero which was one of 602 specially modified can am racers. I sold that car to buy a 1970 Chevelle convertible with a LS6 engine. college was really fun and fast. Then I made the mistake of buying a 1972 BMW 2002 T I I. I was almost disowned from the family! My latest project is in 1981 M 535 I of which there are only 14 in the United States.I really look forward to meeting the guys and gals of the car club and to seeing your cars also. If anyone needs contacts for BMW parts or services please let me know, I’ve made a lot of contacts over the years.a big thanks to Larry lovely and his beautiful bride for helping make this club possible. I look forward to meeting all of you. How about a post on your car’s?hope to hear from you soon, Bob Bryan

  16. Bob Stockton:

This is a great group of folks with just one common interest: cars. It doesn’t matter if it’s a daily driver, sports car, hot rod, muscle car, show car, whatever….the owners get together just because of their wheels.

Their calendar of events includes a picnic in April and various and sundry car shows and cruise-ins this summer. The club is a good way meet car folks in McCormick and the surrounding area. Contact Larry Lovely for more info.
