BEACH PARTY Inauguration Reminder (Saturday, June 30th, 5pm)

All the sand is down! Come see our renovated beach.

The Power Squadron will provide the chicken, y’all bring a chair. Ladies bring a dish to pass, men bring a steel rake. Everyone wear something you can swim in. Come by car or boat and at about 8pm some of us will head down to Plum Branch Yacht Club for the kick off party of Thunder-over-Thurmond week with a live band. Join us if you like.

Oh yeah, that steel rake thing – the beach will be graded but it will need just a little attention to smooth any rough spots. We will have this knocked off by the time the ladies have the food ready, really it will be a quick fix with a lot of hands.

Then enjoy the eats, your favorite beverage, and a nice dip in the lake as we admire the beach.

Another reminder, it’s Time to Pay the Sand Man. (Really, we need to send our check this week)

If you have not already done so, please make your check payable to TLS&PS (Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron) and drop off at the Tara or Monticello Golf Shop, or you can drop off your check to: Chalifours /Save Our Beach, 219 Candlewick Loop, in Shenandoah.

We need to know how much chicken to buy so please shoot back a quick email at muchali4@gmail.com to let us know how many will attend from your group, even if you’re not sure or just a maybe (leaves more chicken for the rest of us).

    See you at the Beach.

Doug & Marianne Chalifour / Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT WITH HONOR

Take the opportunity to honor your friends and family that have served or
are serving in the military. You can do this by purchasing a luminarie to
be displayed and lit at dusk at the July 5th concert at the Mack Park.
The Ft. Gordon Concert Band and Color Guard will be performing to honor
    our local veterans.

The luminaries will be on sale for $10.00 ea. at the McCormick Chamber of
    Commerce Mon-Fri., 9:30 am – 4:00 pm and the Red Rooster Mon.-Sat., 10:00
    am – 5:00 pm.

Proceeds will go to Operation Quiet Comfort, a 501-c-3 non profit. The
funds will purchase supplies for our wounded and the medical staff that
take care of them at the combat hospitals in Afghanistan and Kuwait.

Thank you for your support and see you at the concert.

  3. Activites Around the Lake :
Saturday, June 30th. The community is organizing another golf cart parade. Decorate your golf cart and ride around the marina. We will start and judge at the Ships’ Store. Time to be posted.
Saturday, June 30th – 8 p.m. to midnight we will have the Mark Roberts Band at PBYC. Gate opens at 7. Cost is $10 per adult at the gate and kids are free when accompanied by an adult. Russell will be cooking and feeding you at a modest cost. He will be selling beer, water, soft drinks, gatorade, etc. You may bring your cooler if you leave all glass at home. DO NOT BRING BEER OR WINE IN A BOTTLE. Some of the neighbors might do some fireworks!
Tuesday, July 3rd – Kyack Olympic Event and Paddle. Little River Blueway is sponsoring a Kayak safari. It will be from 7 – 9 PM. It will leave from the Baker Creek State Park . Resgister at:TLSPS.org
Wednesday, July 4th – The Lake Thurmond Power Squadron is sponsoring a Boat Parade and Beach Party. The Boat Parade will leave the Dorn Boating Facility (Hawe Creek) at 10 AM. The boats will parade down to PBYC where an ice cream boat will be waiting to cool off the participants. I believe the boat parade will end at Savannah Lakes ‘ beach, but I could be wrong about that. Because at noon the Beach Party starts. There will be hot dogs (2 free per person), chips, traditional games, and most importantly and at 12:30 there will be prizes for the Boat Parade winners. The prizes are cash (well, on a debit card). Please register for the Boat Parade at:www.tlsps.org. Tell them PBYC sent you. Maybe we will bring home the trophy for the most participants. You can see all the details at tlsps.org.
Saturday, July 7th – Thunder Over Thurmond (Fireworks). The best fireworks display of the season will be from the Dorn Boating Facility at Hawe Creek. They have a major event planned. Cost of tickets is $20, parking is $5. If you come by boat park on the Georgia side of the main channel across from Hawe Creek (near channel marker SR75) for the best view. See details at: http://www.thunderoverthurmond.net/thunder/thunderoverthurmond.html. Gates open at 1 PM. Bands start at 4:30 and continue til midnight with a break for fireworks at 9:45 – 10:30 PM. If you want to enjoy the fireworks without the noise you may come to PBYC to the end of Sunset Point or Breezy Point. However, we need you to leave your cars and trucks up by the store and walk or take a golf cart to the points. The area will be congested and we do not want anyone to be hurt by an automobile. You may bring a lawn chair and a cooler so long as you take your trash home with you.
Here are the details about the Boat Parade(from Savannah Lakes beach to Plum Branch Yacht Club near the store and Pavilion and back to SL beach) and Beach Party on July 4th.
This 4th of July, on Wednesday, will be the First Annual Independence Day Boat Parade. Gathering at the Dorn Boating Facility at 10am, boats will pass the judges stand starting at 10:30. We then make way to circle the ‘Ice Cream Boat’ where ice cream sandwiches and goodie bags will be tossed to all participants. And finally make our way over to the Beach Party at the Savannah Lakes Marina Beach for the winners presentation of ‘Best-Decorated’ boats. A trophy and various cash card prizes will be awarded.
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC – BRING THE FAMILIES.
At the Beach Party from noon to 4pm, we will have free hot dogs (limit 2) & chips, adult activities, children’s games and contests with prizes. Be on time in order to watch all the boats coming into the beach. Bring family & friends and stay for the Beach Party. Bring your own chairs or blanket, and other food/beverage. (We already have word from Camp Grand to expect 10 boats and at least 40 youth just from them.) And for our extended community, without boats, we are inviting any SLV’er who would like a ride in the boat parade to come down to the beach at 9:45am and we will have a Power Squadron boat available.
Besides food & activities, we will have a raffle for a day’s use of 2 pontoon boats. There will be 2 drawings. You do not need to be present to win and holidays are excluded.
3rd of July – Kayak Olympics & Paddle on our Little River Blueway will be a separate event from Baker Creek State Park that preceding evening (July 3rd) from 7p.m. to ?p.m. Some fun (putting the emphasis on fun) events to test and learn skills with a kayak, followed by a paddle up the river & back, while the evening is cooling down and the moon is rising. A limited number of kayaks will be available.
Please go to http://www.TLSPS.orgfor more information and to register for the Boat Parade or Kayak Adventure.
3rd & 4th Are no charge events – Please thank & support our sponsors.
Hope to see you on the 3rd & 4th!
