MCC members go kart racing
at Carolina Motorsports Park
Fourteen McCormick Car Club (MCC) members car pooled up to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC, last month to test driving skills in go karts.
Ten men and four ladies raced around a twisty road course with both right and left hand turns.  The rental karts feature 10 horse power engines and can reach speeds of 50 miles per hour.
“We started the day with an experienced racer leading newbies at a slow pace to point out braking points, where to turn in, corner apexes and where to drift out,” said organizer Bob Stockton.
“Then we broke the men up into two groups for a practice and qualifying session and three eight-lap races for the two men’s groups and the ladies.
“We do it up right by awarding medals to top finishers, celebrating with a podium and champagne ceremony, then stopping for dinner in Lexington to joke and swap tall tales,” he said.
This was the second outing this year for the club, and it plans two more outings, one in September and another in November.
