Golf Talk!

The Monticello and Tara Golf Courses are within the Savannah Lakes Village Community.
Savannah Lakes Village’s two 18-hole award-wining championship golf courses, carved from the rolling landscape wrapping Lake Thurmond, offer unique challenges and breathtaking vistas of the lake and piedmont forest. And best of all, membership into these first rate waterfront clubs are included with your property ownership! With five sets of tees at Monticello and six sets of tees at Tara, the course can be set-up to play from 4,500 yards to over 7,000 yards. We also offer excellent practice facilities available to include spacious driving ranges, putting greens, practice bunkers, and pitching greens. The area also offers a third 18-hole golf course at the Hickory Knob State Resort Park, giving Savannah Lakes Village residents access to three lake front golf courses within a 5 mile radius of home!

Please let us know about your day. Have a question, go ahead and ask, I am sure you will receive all kinds of answers.

Fore Fun….Come on down !!! Every Thursday at Tara we sign up no later than 3:45 for a 4:00 shotgun start. This is a 9 hole, captains choice event. All levels of golfers are welcome to play. Teams are made up each Thursday afternoon based on your current handicap (although no handicap is needed to play). We try to even the teams out as best we can to offer a small incentive for bragging rights each night. We even have a funny trophy for the most outrageous play of the night. We usually split up couples, unless you specifically request to play together, which is not a problem. Please feel free to bring your guests to play with the group. Green tee players are especially welcomed and really spice up the par 5’s for us! So come out for a good time. Remember sign up is no later than 3:45 p.m., 4:00 p.m Shotgun start and a 6:15 p.m. finish time. Then enjoy food and libations at the 19 hole! For some of us,the best part of the round!
Last Thursdays winners at 4 under par were Randy Cook, Alex Stewart and Alec Schissler. Second place at 2 under par were the team of John Kuech, Ed Schissler, Rick Hogg and Lorie Cook. For a good time, play Fore Fun.

We are only days away from this year’s NGA Savannah Lakes Village Classic. The NGA Pro Golf Tour, established in 1988, predates the Nationwide Tour as the longest running developmental tour in golf and its main purpose is to prepare players to move on to the Nationwide and PGA Tours.

The 2012 NGA Pro Golf Tour schedule boasts a plethora of courses that have hosted more combined PGA, LPGA, Nationwide and Champions Tour events as well as USGA and NCAA Championships than any other tour in the history of developmental golf and our own Savannah Lakes Village Classic is listed as one of its Major Tournaments’.

The NGA Pro Golf Tour is the No. 3 Men’s Professional Golf Tour in the United States after the PGA and Nationwide Tours and is the No. 1 recommended developmental tour by more PGA and Nationwide Tour Professionals.

The NGA has helped hundreds of professionals acquire their PGA, Euro, Nationwide, and Champions Tour cards. In fact, NGA alumni have won an incredible Fifteen (15) “Major” Championships.

NGA Alumni include: 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson; 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley; 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year and 2003 US Open Champion Jim Furyk; 2009 British Open Champion Stewart Cink; 2009 US Open Champion Lucas Glover; 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson; 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel; 2003 British Open Champion Ben Curtis; two-time US Open Champion Lee Janzen; British Open and PGA Champion John Daly; British Open Champion Tom Lehman; PGA Champion David Toms; 2003 Tour Championship Winner Chad Campbell; 2010 NGA Player of the Year Michael Thompson; 2011 PGA winners Sean O’Hair, Scott Piercy, Scott Stallings, Mark Wilson, Gary Woodland and many, many more.

At this year’s PGA Tour Qualifying School, 52% of those earning full exempt status on the PGA Tour and 67% of those earning full exempt status on the Nationwide Tour were past NGA Professionals. Another 16 NGA Professionals advanced to the PGA Tour for 2012 by finishing inside the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list, including 2011 NGA members Ted Potter Jr., Russell Knox and Billy Hurley III.

Plan to join in the fun associated with this event at our own Monticello Golf Course. Preliminary activities begin Monday April 23, 2012 with the first tournament round beginning Thursday April 26th. Full schedule of events will be published in Neighborlink tomorrow.

    FORE FUN

Last Thursday 19 people played Fore Fun. Let’s see if we can increase the number this week. The weather was great last week and it looks like more of the same this Thursday. The winners at 6 under par were Tim Travis, Liz Hanna, and Charlie Creran. In second place at 4 under were AJ and Evelyn Piwowarski and Barbara and Charlie Angstadt.

Fore Fun is a nine hole scramble. You do not have to use any player’s shot any set number of times. There are no prizes so it is stress free golf. Just come and have a good time. We welcome all levels of golfers, male and female, including Green Tee golfers. Husbands and wives generally do not play together unless they request to. (We are trying to keep this fun!) Many, but not all, folks stay afterwards and have dinner. Some just stay and have a liquid refreshment. Some choose not to do either. Sign up between 3:30 and 3:45. We then make up teams and start by 4:00. We finish no later than 6:15 so there is plenty of time to socialize. Come this Thursday to Tara. If you played in the MGA or WGA that day there are no greens fees, just cart fees. Contact me if you have any questions.
